MusIkons

The move to the North California Bay in 2004 was the impetus behind the MusIkons series. My Elder Brother, former Count Basie trombonist, Nelson Harrison (inventor and designer of the trombetto) aka ‘Betto from the Ghetto, had just gotten me involved in the Global African Music and Arts Festival/Symposium at UC Santa Cruz and subsequently introduced me to Jazz giants Randy Weston, Larry Ridley, Donald Byrd, Freddie Redd. These were some of the individuals who framed some of the reference points of my Jazz universe [I+iverse]. As ‘exemplars’ of this medium they are iconic. Thus the MusIkons began.

These are marriage/manipulation of the aspects of musicians from the MugFiles with sections of laser imagery. They are finished in one or more of the Old World surface treatments, such as chigiri-e, eggshell, etc., I learned.

Here are a few of the first Baker’s Dozen … soon to come Pete Escovedo, Ras Josh David, and ….
